Unique in Canada, CAHD uses four types of creative arts therapies – art, drama, music and dance/movement – to promote autonomy, improve self-confidence and social skills, and enhance overall quality of life for its participants. Working at CAHD was one of the most gratifying work experiences of my life.
My role within CAHD was helping to produce and promote our plays. This involved creative tasks like working on scripts, rehearsing with our performers and consulting on sets. This involved marketing / publicity-related tasks like getting mentions in local news outlets, producing marketing materials, getting funding, and selling tickets. Most importantly it involved human tasks like consoling anxious actors, inspiring and getting performers excited and just being a friend.
